Term 5 - Friday

Camp has come to an end :( Today is our last day of camp for the summer and it is a very sad day. It started out at any normal day with breakfast, flagpole, and celebration. It was sad to watch, but we know that there is next year and that many will be back.

The afternoon activities ran smoothly and were very exciting! Some more tournaments were going on and the campers were really getting into them. Then we ended activities a little early so that we could clean up and get ready for cabin photos.

For dinner, we had grille chicken with rice, green beans, and delicious rolls. After dinner we had our last celebration which was hard to watch as well. The campers were really worshiping God and it was such a bitter sweet moment. Then the cabins finished the last preparations for their skits. Some of them were hilarious to watch while others were more solemn because they were based on a Bible verse. Once skit night was over, we headed to our final fire side of the summer! WOW! We can't believe it is over, but we are glad that we ended with teen week! What an amazing bunch of kiddos we have this week!

Thank you parents for sending them and we hope to see you Saturday :)

Term 5 - Thursday

YEAH! I love Thursdays at camp and this week I get to explain what happens on Thursdays here at CGN! What a beautiful morning it was to wake up and here the birds chirping. All the cabins were cleaning their cabins to make them squeaky clean for cabin clean up and then off to breakfast they went. After breakfast was flagpole, then devotionals, and lunch to follow.

For lunch today we had chili cheese dogs or Frito pies....yummy :) I don't think there was much leftover today because it is such a popular meal out at camp! Rest time came next as it is much needed on this Thursday and then activities.

Some of the activities today included dodge ball, knockout, ultimate Frisbee, and canoe races. I tried to make it to each activities and capture the moments! The campers were so involved and so excited that the counselors were playing along. As usual, all of the other activities were opened as well like the zip line, archery, and blob. I saw a bunch of campers at the blob and it looked like they were having fun.

Ok, ok, ok...I just can't wait to tell you all about our Thursday nights at camp. Here is what happens. Camp runs what seems like normal in we have dinner, then head upstairs for worship and a word from our director, but then they go back early for some cabin devotionals. When they come back to the to the meeting room we tell them it is movie night and then we put on a boring movie that no one really wants to watch. We wait until everyone gets settled in and then we turn off the lights and chaos begins. ESPIONAGE BEGINS! Basically, all the cabins get a folder with glow sticks, a map, and instructions on what they are going to be doing. Then they head out on their mission, but they cannot be seen. If they are, they have to sing a song or something obnoxious, or we just stall them. It is one of the BEST NIGHTS in Camp Good News History and I haven't revealed anything until now. Today was our final Espionage, but it seems that all went well and everyone is sleeping well in their cabins now. Tomorrow is our final full day at camp and it is going to be amazing! Good night for now :)

Term 5 - Wednesday

Wednesday started out at as any other day with breakfast, then flagpole, cabin devotionals, and some celebration time. Today's breakfast was french toast, sausage, and juice! This is one of my absolute FAVORITE meals at camp and I am pretty sure that the campers like it as well! After celebration, the campers headed to more Bible Sessions and had a snack in between.

Today was different in the afternoon because it is WEDNESDAY GAMES!!!!!! For teen week, we change it up a bit. We had a series of events that we did and it was absolutely amazing. First, the cabins were divided into 2 teams; blue and green. Then they were divided into boys and girls. Next, we headed down to the soccer field to get painted up and then to begin our first relay. The campers had to stick their heads in a bucket full of water that had various items in it and pull out an item. Each item was worth so many points. The items were such as mushrooms, marshmallows, cherries, Vienna sausages, and pickles. It was TONS OF FUN!

Next, we headed over for an outrageous FOOD FIGHT!!!! This was not just an ordinary food fight because there wasn't actually any food involved. It was more like horse feed and water that made mush which was awesome to throw at people. This made taking pictures a hard job for me, but I managed to capture some great shots.

To wrap up our Wednesday Games, we went by the lake to do the LARGEST SLIP-N-SLIDE in CAMP HISTORY!! It was so amazing that I wanted to get in on the fun! It was awesome!!!! You should just look at the pictures and they will tell all!

Once all the games were done, we all got to rinse off in the lake and have some free swim for awhile. It was nice and relaxing. Then, we all went and showered and got ready for our evening activities. This included Fru-Fru night for girls and camp out for boys. For dinner, the girls had a nice salad, chicken fettuccine alfredo with rolls, and cheesecake for desert. The boys grilled sausage dogs over a fire, and had apples and oranges while some fished as well.

The girls got to head up stairs to watch a movie, paint their nails, eat some delicious snick snack food, and just relax with girls while the boys played some ultimate Frisbee, football, basketball, and got to swim. The girls then headed back to their cabins to sleep while the boys got to sleep out on the island in tents. What fun, what fun, what fun :-) There are a bunch of pictures from today so make sure you look at them all!

Term 5 - Tuesday

Today we began with what we like to call our "Breakfast of Champions"; eggs, hash browns, and a biscuit and gravy. After we had our fill in the dining hall, we headed to flagpole where the campers recited their bible verse for the day. There were some cabins that got very creative with the presentation of the verse, putting it into songs and adding motions here and there. We also had a special guest at flagpole today. One of our very own counselors came and played "Amazing Grace" on the bagpipes for our listening pleasure.

When they went back to their cabins, campers cleaned up and had morning devotions as well as some quiet times by themselves. Then, everyone headed to worship and spiritual electives. Some of the topics discussed in the groups today were Others First, Wise Choices, Ultimate Authority, and Myths about Christianity. The campers asked some great questions and seemed to gain a lot from each session. Next was lunch. Campers just love the corn dogs and french fries on Tuesday. They sang lots of songs to get into lunch and the daily pig and roosters were announced as well.

Finally, a break came after lunch. After an enlightening morning, the campers were ready for some rest time. The campers have had the opportunity the past couple of days to sign up for tournaments that take place after canteen during their free recreational time. Today, there were exciting sand volleyball and basketball tournaments for the campers to enjoy. Many of them chose to go for a swim in the pool after some exhausting games. We had beautiful weather today for our tournaments, pool time, and later the evening activity.

When the campers finished cleaning up and eating dinner, they went for more worship and a message from our director, Kevin. Our evening activity tonight was "Around the World in 80 Minutes" during which each cabin travels around camp to different stations that represent the nations of the world. Every nation has specific needs that need to be met. Whether it be financially or educationally, the campers had the opportunity to essentially be missionaries for each country. They played games to win books, money, food, etc. that could be given away to the nations. One cabin will be recognized for their generosity to the countries tomorrow. They had tons of fun and headed back to the cabins for evening devo's just in time for some rain showers to pass over the area. We are excited for tomorrow, so stay updated and enjoy the pictures from today!!

Term 5 - Sunday/Monday

Welcome back to our blog! Your campers have gotten settled in and are enjoying camp!
This morning got started with some delicious pancakes, sausage, and orange juice! Campers were a bit sleepy, but managed to eat and then rush over to flag pole. This is where the campers stated their memory verse and got the morning started off just right.

To the meeting hall they went next for a time of worship and a message from our Director of Camp, Kevin Edney. This week we have a worship band for our teenagers so it is really exciting and neat to watch. I really do love to watch them worship our big and awesome God. After our big group time together, the campers get to choose a devotional session to go to. This is where they are in small groups and the really begin to dig deep into God's word and spend some time breaking it apart to really understand it. In between sessions is a little snack time :)

Lunch came next and it was amazing personal sized pizza today, with carrots, and an icee! Yeah! The campers were able to sing songs, serenades, and parades at lunch. What fun it is to see them singing! Rest time comes next and it is one of my favorite times. We just chill in the cabin and take a breather. Off to activities after that.

Activities also run different this week. The campers get to choose from a variety of activities to go to. Things like blob, archery, canoeing, 22's, BB's, zip line, and many more! I saw a lot of campers at the blob today having fun, but we did get thundered out. We had a small storm pass through here, but we still had fun indoors! The cabins got together and came up with themed songs...pretty neat!

Then tonight was our final COUNTY FAIR! It was a bittersweet moment for us, but I think we might just bring it back next year! All of our campers loved this one! Below are some pictures and don't forget to check all the pictures out! I will post more tomorrow!

Teen Week-Sunday

TEEN WEEK IS HERE!!!!!!!! It is our final week of camp and we get to spend it with a bunch of teenagers....and we are excited about it! Yeah for Teen Week!!! Competitions will be fierce, activities will be amazing, and our theme nights will be more fun than you can possibly handle! Parents, your campers are in for the best week of their summer and they didn't even know it!

We are glad that you all arrived here safe and sound and our campers are looking good. Tonight got started off with dinner after everyone arrived. The campers were able to get their things unpacked and hang out in their cabins until then. After dinner we enjoyed our camp rules, counselor introductions, and leadership introductions. Then we headed down to the pool for our Hawaiian Luau. The campers did their swim tests here, drank some punch, and enjoyed the nice evening breeze while lounging in the pool. What a great way to get Teen Week started off!

I will keep you posted throughout the week with what we are doing!!

Term 4 - Friday

Again we have come to the close of another amazing week at Camp Good News. Parents will be here bright and early in the morning and take these campers away from us :( It is such sad days! But we have certainly enjoyed this past week!

From dusk till dawn our day is filled with activities, events, and fun, fun, fun! The campers are constantly doing something around camp and enjoying every minute of it.

For me, it is cool to see what opening day looks like and then what closing day looks like. I see the progression of campers and counselors. They go from meeting the campers and then they get to know one another throughout the week. It ends up being a teary-eyed Saturday for almost everyone. There is so much that campers bring to the camp and that our counselors bring to camp. It takes the effort of all for it work and it is the beauty of Christ within us that shines through.
Parents, thank you so much for entrusting your camper with us this past week. What joy it has been, even though I myself am not in a cabin or a parent, I see it. I hope and pray that this bond will last a lifetime and most importantly that we continue to seek God's will in all we do! Drive safe and we will see you tomorrow!
